A little buzz going to vote, and a cancellation.

The Constitutional Council validated this Wednesday the victory of Emmanuel Macron in the presidential election last Sunday.

But all the votes are not validated, in particular those of the commune of Lourdios-Ichère (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), in which Jean Lassalle claimed, in the second round, his status of “abstentionist before the ballot box”.

He who had won more than a million votes and 3.13% of the votes in the first round, under the label of his Résistons movement!, had announced that he would vote white in the second.

But facing the media on Sunday, he mimed the gesture of voting in front of the ballot box before slipping his "white ballot" into his pocket.

After the fortnight between the two rounds, "which gave me so many sleepless nights (…) I said to myself that the white vote was no longer up to scratch", explained the deputy for the Pyrenees- Atlantics at AFP.

“In the name of the constituency which trusted me so much, it seemed to me that I had to raise my voice a little bit and put myself in danger, to say that the situation is worrying”.

In the "political maquis"

The Constitutional Council therefore invalidates the votes of the office of Lourdios-Ichère, in which 90 votes were cast.

He justifies it by indicating that the “actions (of Jean Lassalle) have, in view of (his) notoriety and his quality of deputy and former mayor, been likely to alter the sincerity of the ballot in this commune”.

Also recalling that Jean Lassalle "immediately broadcast this video on social networks, as well as comments on his gesture".

The Council also mentions “possible criminal proceedings that may be initiated”.

The Béarnais deputy, he indicated that he had "entered a form of political maquis" and specified that he "must continue his reflection (in) the coming weeks" on whether or not to maintain his candidacy for the legislative elections.
