The grimace soup is over.

After two years of health crisis, Lille will finally find its traditional May 1 soup festival on Sunday.

An unmissable party that has been taking place for more than twenty years in the Wazemmes district.

Do not see any gastronomic specialty of the area.

The soup is above all an excuse to party.

“It allows you to meet, to exchange, to be in sharing.

Because the soup is common to all continents, all cultures.

And it's easy to do and share because it's not expensive at all,” explains Héloïse Roux, administrator of the Attacafa association which created and organizes the event.

A soup contest and a big street festival

Originally a simple neighborhood party, the soup festival, or Louche d'Or, has since grown considerably.

In 2019, the date of the last edition before Covid, nearly 40,000 people had strolled through Wazemmes on May 1.

Because this international festival, which takes place from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., brings together a hundred amateur cooks who present their soup to the public but also to a jury of 25 people responsible for awarding the famous Louche d'Or.

And if the soup doesn't make your taste buds salivate more than that, know that the festival is not just about that.

Concerts, street artists, activities and workshops for children, everything is done to celebrate cultural diversity.

“It's the last street festival that still exists in Lille.

After two years of confinement, the objective is really to reconnect the links between people, ”insists Héloïse Roux.

And what better than a good soup to warm hearts.
