It was in February that two witnesses saw a car driving along the road in Kiruna with a dog that was stuck and dragged behind one of the back doors.

They drove after the car and honked to make the driver stop.

After a while the car stopped and there were two men in it.

A witness describes that the dog shook and seemed terrified and that there were clear traces of blood in the snow - but one of the men said that it did not need veterinary care.

The dog was killed

The next day, however, the dog was taken to care and an animal keeper describes in a report that the dog was constantly shaking, hyperventilated so that the heart could not be heard, the pads were loose on all paws and the claws were gone up to the pulp or longer.

The dog had to be killed due to the injuries.

Men deny animal cruelty

On Tuesday, two men in their 40s were brought to justice on suspicion of animal cruelty.

Both men deny the crime.

- My client believes that this is a pure accident, says lawyer Björn Linder who defends the man who drove the car.
