According to the Swedish Work Environment Authority, the reason for the decision is that the region does not meet the requirement to use syringes and needles with a functioning integrated protection function.

Something that was discovered when the region last year itself reported its routines for vaccinations against covid-19.

The Swedish Work Environment Authority considers that the region has broken down in the work environment as it has exposed its staff to risks, in this case for possible stab wounds and blood-borne infection.

Risks vaccination ban and fine

By 9 May, the Örebro County region must report how they intend to give employees the opportunity to practice work techniques with needles and syringes that have an integrated protection function in order to reduce the risk of stab injuries.

If the requirement is not met, they will be banned from performing vaccinations against covid-19 and will be forced to pay a fine of SEK 100,000.

In that case, the ban will apply from 15 June this year, until April 2023.
