While the Insoumis have already started discussions with Europe Ecologie Les Verts (EELV), the Communist Party, and the NPA, the formation of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who came third in the presidential election with nearly 22% of the vote, had initially shown reluctance to discuss with the PS.

A first meeting date was finally scheduled for Wednesday, Manuel Bompard, head of negotiators for LFI, told AFP.

"A first step that we welcome," confirmed Pierre Jouvet, in charge of negotiations within the PS.
