For one month, Luleå University of Technology has carried out an experiment in which seven employees were allowed to count train journeys from their home towns of Boden, Kalix and Haparanda as working hours.

And now the LTU management is considering a continuation and possibly an investment in bus travel instead.

"A very good idea"

Dardo Asian Hanson is pleasantly surprised by the proposal.

- I actually think it's a very good idea.

If I travel by train or bus, I can work during the journey.

I think this will come more and more, if we can handle it in a disciplined way.

- Because it is possible to work efficiently, even if you are not physically at work.

My opinion is that more and more employees, not least here at LTU, want to go this route, she says.

Principal: "Good for the work environment"

Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn is the principal and she shares Dardo's view.

- This is good for the climate and for the working environment for our employees.

It is obviously interesting to try to count travel time to work as working time, she says.
