SVT Nyheter Väst has previously reported on the problem of employees in elderly care who have not been able to understand or make themselves understood in Swedish well enough.

In March, the Social Democrats 'Marina Johanssson said that she was not satisfied with the official statement but believed that something must happen now, while the Christian Democrats' Elisabet Lann tried to pour oil on the waves and say that they actually agreed.

Decisions are made today

At the board meeting today, there is a clear majority to still introduce tests of the kind that already exist in, among other places, Botkyrka, something that Dagens Nyheter was the first to report on.

This makes Gothenburg the first major city to choose that path.

In the criticized official statement, the administration's officials concluded that the language tests available on the market today do not meet today's needs and that the cost thus exceeds the benefit.

But the officials had then only looked at traditional language tests that are used to determine, for example, a person's level of knowledge in connection with language training.

The Botkyrka model

What has been done in Botkyrka, among other places, is instead to present the jobseeker with scenarios that he or she may encounter in real life and then examine how the applicant communicates with the old person and with their colleagues, how to alert and later report in writing.

It is a model of the kind Gothenburg now wants to introduce.

Although there is a broad majority in favor of Gothenburg introducing a similar model, there are three different yes proposals to consider, according to Dagens Nyheter.

But the differences between the proposals are small.

The tests are intended to be introduced as soon as possible, which can be translated as early as this year.
