Following his victory on Sunday, Emmanuel Macron received congratulations from many leaders.

Logically, the head of state spoke Monday with his American counterpart Joe Biden who complimented him on his re-election, before a next longer discussion where they will discuss in particular the war in Ukraine, announced the Elysée.

The US president underlined "the close and enduring relationship between the United States and France, our oldest ally, based on shared democratic values, economic ties, and security cooperation", according to the House- White.

Joe Biden also said he was ready to "continue to work closely with President Macron on (their) shared global priorities".

A missed call Sunday night

“It was a congratulatory call.

President Biden wanted to congratulate the President today on his re-election,” said the French presidency.

The American president had however tried to join Emmanuel Macron on Sunday evening but the latter was celebrating the victory against Marine Le Pen at the Champ de Mars, in Paris.

The two leaders have decided to speak to each other "more at length very quickly" to discuss "the war in Ukraine, the deepening of the relationship between the United States and the European Union, the continuation of the commitment of our countries on the major global issues, issues for which our close collaboration is essential”, according to the Elysée.

“I am delighted (with the result) of the election in France,” Joe Biden said earlier in Washington on Monday, and “I look forward to continuing our close cooperation,” he added, calling France a “partner key to tackling global challenges”.

The head of American diplomacy Antony Blinken had also, on Sunday, congratulated Emmanuel Macron on twitter, underlining his desire to "strengthen" an "alliance and (a) long and robust friendship".
