“The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia initiated three criminal cases on the grounds of crimes under paragraphs “a”, “b”, part 2 of Art.

243.4 of the Criminal Code of Russia (Destruction or damage to military monuments perpetuating the memory of those killed in the defense of the Fatherland),” the report says.

According to the investigation, in the village of Aukshtkemyai in the Klaipeda region of Lithuania, vandals poured paint over a monument to Soviet soldiers of the 16th Infantry Lithuanian Klaipeda Red Banner Division.

In the same period, a similar fact was recorded on Europe Avenue in the city of Kaunas, where attackers poured paint over a monument to Soviet soldiers.

The third fact of vandalism occurred no later than April 23, where a monument was desecrated in a similar way at the burial place of Soviet soldiers, located on Vytauto Street in the city of Palanga of the Republic of Lithuania.

Earlier, the Russian Embassy in Berlin sent a note of protest to the German Foreign Ministry in connection with the desecration of monuments to Soviet soldiers in the country.
