A man in his twenties living in Saint-Cyr-l'École (Yvelines) was recently tried by the Versailles criminal court.
He would have "offered" more than 10,000 euros of computer equipment through an ingenious scam, reports Le Parisien this Saturday.
Dummy and booby-trapped parcels
The facts occurred between March 2020 and November 2021. The defendant had 176 different accounts on Amazon.
He ordered equipment and then returned it for reimbursement.
But it actually made the barcode on the return package unreadable, thanks to a small Wi-Fi-triggered firing device. The packages were also fake.
The investigation into these facts began in October 2021. The police quickly identified the suspect and searched his home.
Placed in police custody, the young man admitted the facts.
He was given a ten-month suspended prison sentence and a citizenship course.
