- There was quite a stir here today.

There is great interest in the eel after the Assignment review report and the book

Ålevangeliet

, says Jakob Bergengren, environmental engineer at Tekniska verken in Linköping who is responsible for the eel work.

Of the 125,000 fry, just over 9,000 were released into Storsjön, near Edsbruk in northern Kalmar County.

But according to Tekniska verken in Linköping, only around 10 percent of all fry that later manage to reach full size, to become white eels.

The eel is extra sensitive to the environmental impact of freshwater lakes, as the latter will swim out to sea.

Pushes the eel over the power plant

Once the eels have grown into white eels, fishermen will pick them up and transport them past power plants that otherwise risk becoming the death knell for the species.

- It is an artificial respiration but we do it until we have free fishing routes everywhere.

We call it "trap and transport" Last year we caught 5.4 tonnes of eel with the method, and this year we have 8 tonnes as ambition.
