The commander of the Strategic Missile Forces recalled that the "Sarmat" can be equipped with hypersonic warheads

On the air of the Russia 1 channel, he recalled that Sarmat is based on a carrier that is much more powerful than the Avangard carrier.

“And it was created, among other things, for the Avangard combat equipment, taking into account the fact that their number at this complex may be greater,” RIA Novosti quotes Karakaev.

He also expressed confidence that the appearance of the Avangard would create a new era - the "era of hypersonic weapons", while no other country in the world, except Russia, has such blocks on alert.

On April 20, at the Plesetsk cosmodrome, the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile was successfully launched from a silo.

The Ministry of Defense noted that the missile is capable of hitting targets at long ranges using various flight paths. 

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the Russian army on the successful launch of the Sarmat ICBM.

According to the Director General of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin, deliveries of serial Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles to the Strategic Missile Forces are planned to begin in the fall of 2022.
