Moscow: Our embassy in Washington is "besieged"!

Moscow accused America today of besieging its embassy in Washington.

In the midst of the escalating tension between Russia and the West, especially the United States, against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the Russian ambassador in Washington Anatoly Antonov confirmed that "the embassy's work is under siege, with its bank accounts closed, and employees receiving a number of threats," according to Reuters reported.

He also added that "the embassy is basically surrounded by US government institutions", and that "Bank of America" closed the consulate accounts in Houston and New York as well.

Also, the Russian ambassador stressed that the embassy employees received threats by phone, and letters as well, pointing out that at some point he was also prevented from leaving the embassy.

Russia and the United States have disputed the size and functioning of their respective diplomatic missions for a long time, even before the start of the military operation in Ukraine.

In addition, the Russian embassies in Europe were subjected to several pressures, as more than 300 of their staff were expelled, which prompted Moscow to respond by expelling European diplomats.
