CAIRO -

Amid expectations of a presidential pardon soon for some of those who have been sentenced to final rulings.

The National Council for Human Rights announced its participation in receiving those released by decisions of the Public Prosecution who are in pretrial detention, according to Egyptian newspapers.

In turn, Representative Muhammad Abdel Aziz, Undersecretary of the Human Rights Committee in the House of Representatives, said that this marks the return of the Presidential Pardon Committee to work and the expansion of its activities to include debtors and debtors.

On his Facebook page, Abdel-Aziz (he was a member of the Tamarod campaign that demanded the departure of elected President Mohamed Morsi in 2013) said that he thanks President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for the release of a group of imprisoned youth, in preparation for the return of the presidential pardon committee and the expansion of its activities to include those who are in debt alongside the youth.

According to Al-Shorouk newspaper, among the names that are being released are: Walid Shawqi, Mohamed Salah, Amr Imam, Abdo Fayed, Haitham Al-Banna, Ahmed Tammam, Allam Abdel-Alim Ammar, Radwa Halloul, Abdel-Rahman Bassiouni, Hassan Barbari, Hamed Mohamedin.

Activists stressed that what happened - today, Sunday - is the release of a number of detainees in pretrial detention, and not a presidential pardon, because the presidential pardon has final rulings against them.

The names that have been announced so far are all releases, none of them have been convicted.

This is a “preparation” for the return of the pardon committee, as most of the convicts are still unaccounted for, and what happened was not a “presidential pardon” until the latest available news, but rather a wave of releasing detainees in pretrial detention, as happened once before, when Mahienour, Sulafa, Hossam and others were released.

Jad al-Karim added that he and a member of the Council, Muhammad Anwar al-Sadat, participated in the procedures for releasing these young men, as representatives of the National Council for Human Rights.

He expected that there would be more release procedures in the coming period, and the breakthrough that took place is a good step, stressing that there is great flexibility on the part of the Ministry of Interior and the Public Prosecution and there is continuous coordination with them, adding that he has hope that the case of pretrial detention will be closed, and all special problems will be ended. Imprisonment soon, he said.

Two days ago, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said - during a meeting with a number of journalists and media professionals - that the country needs to launch a comprehensive political dialogue commensurate with what he described as the idea of building or launching the new republic.

Feelings of joy prevailed on social media, and calls for the release of the rest of the detainees soon, whose numbers are in the thousands, according to opposition parties and human rights reports.

We need the Public Prosecution and the State Security Prosecution to do their part, only to keep in real investigations and respect for their decisions.
