Marine Le pen faces incumbent President Emmanuel Macron ahead of the second round of French elections.

Her success may be due to the public conversation being shifted to the right, says SVT's European correspondent David Boati.

- The more radical ÉricZemmour's entry into the political scene has made Le Pen appear less extreme.

Zemmour, for example, has been convicted of incitement against ethnic groups several times.

Changed policy

During Le Pen's election campaign, she has focused less on "the Islamization of France" and more on social issues.

This has been, for example, a reduction in the tax on fuel.

Issues that were previously high on the agenda, such as leaving the EU and introducing the death penalty, have taken up less space.
