The government said it had received intelligence that some of the people who participated in the volunteer army to help Ukraine had died.



The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "Recently, we have received information from relevant countries that there are deaths among Koreans participating in the Ukraine war as volunteers, and we are checking the truth through various channels."



There are four South Koreans that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has identified as having entered Ukraine without government permission and is currently staying.



The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is said to have received intelligence that multiple South Koreans had been killed.



The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is trying to contact the 4 people who have been confirmed to leave the country directly or with their families and is checking whether they are still alive.



In relation to this, SBS inquired on the official SNS of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army, and as a result, the volunteers replied, "As a matter of policy, we cannot disclose the identity of the casualties or individual participants."



Regarding the size of the Korean participants, he said, "The nationality and number of the participants cannot be disclosed for security reasons."

However, regarding Captain Lee Geun, who has been known to not be able to contact him recently, he said, "We communicated today and confirmed that he is in good health."



The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged citizens who entered Ukraine without permission to leave as soon as possible, saying, "I am seriously concerned about personal safety due to intensifying fighting in southeastern Ukraine."
