On the satellite images, you can see what are said to be mass graves in the town of Manhush west of Mariupol.

The rows in the field have become more and longer during the war, and according to Ukrainian authorities, the graves can hold about 9,000 bodies.

According to Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko, more than 20,000 of the city's residents have died since Russia's invasion.

Boichenko has accused Russia of concealing its war crimes by moving civilian bodies to the mass graves, according to the AP.

On Thursday, Russian President Putin declared the city "liberated" by the Russian military, despite having not yet taken control of the Azovstal steelworks, and dead bodies are now being retrieved in devastated residential areas by Russian personnel.
