It was confirmed that Lee Jong-ho, a candidate for Minister of Science and ICT, donated 1.1 billion won to his spouse, but did not report it to the National Tax Service for 10 years, and paid it late only after the nomination of the candidate.

Criticism of validation failure.

This is the tax receipt paid by Lee Jong-ho, the wife of Minister of Science and ICT.

This is the receipt for tax item 33, gift tax.

It's been three days since the nominee was nominated as Minister.

10 years ago, in November 2012, Lee bought an apartment in Seocho-gu, Seoul for 1.36 billion won and set it up as a 6 to 4, husband and wife joint name.

At that time, he donated 1.14 billion won to his wife, including the amount of his wife's stake in the apartment of 540 million won and a separate deposit of 600 million won.

However, he did not report the marital gift to the tax authorities, and after 10 years had passed since he was nominated as a ministerial candidate, he paid the tax belatedly.

As her wife donated an additional 170 million won to pay gift tax, she also paid 50 million won in gift tax.

The candidate's side explained, "I did not think that the share of the spouse's share was a gift, and I thought that the 600 million won transferred for family living expenses was the limit of the gift tax deduction between the couple, so I did not have to pay the gift tax."

However, there are criticisms that the failure to even filter the tax arrears is a poor verification.

[Yoon Young-chan / Democratic Party Member: Even in the very basic part, the verification was not done properly.

In this regard, the verification system itself for the ministerial candidates had a very serious problem...

I tried to contact the winner's verification team by phone and text message to hear their position, but no response was received.
