Firefighters intervened this Thursday afternoon in Morlincourt (Oise) to rescue a deer stuck in a canal parallel to the Oise river.

The animal was on the verge of drowning but had managed to stay on the surface.

The rescuers had been warned by walkers who had witnessed his fall into the water, says

Action by boat

“Generally, deer throw themselves into the water, but have no way to come back up,” explained one of the firefighters.

Firefighters who arrived at the scene around 3:30 p.m. used their boat to get closer to the deer in distress.

It then only took them a few minutes to pull him out of the water and bring him back to dry land.

The deer came out of the canal safe and sound.

The consequences of his fall, however, could have been much more tragic.

By trying to swim to the nearest ramp, the deer could indeed have exhausted itself and ended up drowning.
