The Democratic Party held an emergency response committee again this morning and decided that former CEO Song Young-gil and Rep. Park Ju-min would participate in the Seoul mayoral race.

It has been two days since the Party's Strategic Nomination Management Committee made a decision to 'exclude nominations' for the two people.

It is interpreted that the party, as well as the party leadership and some supporters, protested and showed signs of spreading factional conflicts, and it is understood that they were in a hurry to evolve.

[Ko Yong-jin / Senior Spokesperson for the Democratic Party: There were criticisms about factional remarks, etc., but we decided that it would be more competitive to expand the candidate group a little more (primary election)...

The Democratic Party has decided to recruit additional candidates by tomorrow, go through a cut-off, and conduct the primary by polling Seoul citizens.

If there is no majority, a runoff ballot will also be held.

Currently, six people, including former Chairman Song and Rep. Park, have applied for the mayor of Seoul.

Former CEO Song, who objected to the exclusion of the nomination as "an act of self-harm," expressed his welcome.

[Song Young-gil/Former Democratic Party Representative (Today, SBS Joo Young-jin's news briefing): I am grateful to the non-commissioned members for making the right decision, and the party members who were concerned with me, and I fully accepted those who opposed and criticized me…

Rep. Park also posted on social media a picture of her haircut and the words "Now we start".

The conflict entered a closing phase, but the aftershock continued, with claims that the party's standing adviser Lee Jae-myung asked non-commissioned members to support Song from the nomination right after the decision to exclude the nomination the day before and the rebuttal that it was unfounded.
