Four researchers at Jönköping International Business School have, with the help of data from Statistics Sweden, studied families with a son and a daughter between the years 2004-2017.

The study has focused on seeing how likely sons and daughters are to take over family businesses.

- Our study shows that it is much more common for sons to take over family businesses than for daughters to do so.

Another interesting thing is that companies actually do better under a daughter's management than a son's, that was a little surprising for us, says Lucia Naldi, professor of business administration at Jönköping University.

Will continue the study

The team behind the study wants to continue research further in the subject and build on the study.

Among other things, they want to study further why companies seem to do better in a daughter's management than a son's.

Behind the study are researchers Mohamed Genedy, Lucia Naldi, Mattias Nordqvist and Karin Hellerstedt.

In the clip above, you hear Professor Lucia Naldi talk about what they came up with in their study.
