Just over 15 million French people were in front of the debate between the two rounds on Wednesday.

The general opinion was that the exchanges were more courteous than during the previous edition, five years ago.

But what did you think of the background?

What did you think of the attitude of the two candidates?

Europe 1 has collected the opinion of the people of Strasbourg.

REPORT

The French were 15.6 million to follow the debate between the two rounds of the presidential election on television, Wednesday evening.

This is almost a million viewers less than in 2017. The general opinion is that the exchanges were more courteous than during the previous edition, five years ago.

But what did you think of the background?

What did you think of the attitude of the two candidates?

The Europe 1 correspondent in Strasbourg went to the Alsatian capital to ask the French for their feelings.

On the spot, everyone seems to agree: the debate was indeed more respectful than in 2017.

A “calmer, more interesting” exchange

For this resident, it was also "calmer, more interesting, because the two candidates still talked a little more about their project rather than being aggressive towards each other and attacking each other".

Basically, here too, everyone agrees that Emmanuel Macron dominated the debate, even if his attitude did not necessarily appeal.

"Macron was still largely above, very professional in his files, while Le Pen was a little on the defensive. She is not at the level", asserts a Strasbourg resident.

"I think that in terms of attitude, Marine Le Pen showed composure compared to Emmanuel Macron, who was really more in the attack", tempers another.

"He still appeared a little haughty and a little arrogant, in quotation marks", still judges a resident.

No change of opinion for Sunday

This debate will not change the vote on Sunday of the people of Strasbourg encountered.

"I think that Macron's voters will not vote for Le Pen and that those of Le Pen will not vote for Macron either", assures one of them.

"People will not change their minds about this debate," said a Strasbourg resident.

"I remain convinced that we must vote Macron rather than Marine Le Pen", concludes another.

It remains to be seen what the voters of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who came out on top in the first round in Strasbourg with 35% of the vote, will do.

Emmanuel Macron, he made 30%.

Marine Le Pen, only 11%.
