The police car was parked outside a grocery store on Källgatan at 6 pm while the police were inside the store on another case.
People from the public then saw how a man got into the car.
They went in to alert store staff who in turn notified the police.
With the help of the witnesses' description, the patrol was able to pursue and run after the man.
- It was a running chase of about a hundred meters, says police spokesman Björn Öberg.
The man, who is in his 30s, did not want to be controlled and also resisted strongly.
However, the patrol was able to arrest him and he is now suspected of sabotage against blue light activities, attempted violence against an official, threats against an official and violent resistance.
No one was physically injured in the incident, but the man is said to have torn a tire on the police car that had to be salvaged.
