SVT Nyheter Västmanland has read statistics from the Swedish Transport Administration on punctuality and canceled trains on the section Västerås – Fagersta – Ludvika in 2021. According to the figures, 25 percent of all planned departures in both directions were canceled, but the statistics are not 100 percent.

- Among other things, a number of canceled trains were replaced at the end of last year, and throughout January 2022 with another train operator that SJ decided to hire.

But it is not visible in the statistics, because those trains got new train numbers, says Yujin Zhang, responsible for traffic and infrastructure at Tåg i Bergslagen.

Problems with fallen trees

A contributing reason for canceled trains at the end of last year was SJ's change of schedule planning system.

But the pandemic also led to several planned departures being canceled, especially in early 2021, following an agreement between Region Västmanland, TiB and SJ.

In many cases, a replacement bus was installed instead.

- Otherwise, the main reasons for trains being canceled on this particular stretch are vehicle problems and fallen trees, says Yujin Zhang at TiB.
