Overseas Network, April 20. In the past two weeks, the number of new cases in many places in the United States has risen again.

According to the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on the 19th that the new variant of Omicron is gaining a foothold in the United States.

Although the Omicron BA.2 subtype remains the predominant strain in the United States, the Omicron subtype variant BA.2.12.1 currently accounts for about one-fifth of new cases in the United States.

Currently, BA.2. accounts for about 75% of the new coronavirus variants in the United States.

But the U.S. Department of Health said last week that new Omicron subtype variants, BA.2.12.1 and BA.2.12, may be responsible for the recent surge in cases in New York state.

New York State health officials estimate that the new variant is 23% to 27% more contagious than BA.2, which itself is more contagious than Omicron.

According to Reuters, the CDC estimated that in the week ended April 16, the Omicron BA.2 subtype and its new branch variants accounted for more than 90% of the new coronavirus variants in the United States.
