By guaranteeing a ceiling of 1,000 listed patients per doctor, the health center has tried to create a model that benefits both doctors and patients.

Until 2019, they had gone from two full-time specialist doctors to ten, and by 2022 there will be 14 full-time employees in Borgholm.

- If you have 1500-1600 or 2000 patients for whom you are responsible, it will be difficult to do a good job.

If you can not do a good job, you apply for another form of work or specialty, says Åke Åkesson, operations manager at Borgholm's health center.

Believes that the Borgholm model can work in other places

Åke Åkesson believes that it could be nationally possible to start working according to the model and working method used in Borgholm, and that it could create better primary care in Sweden.

- That this way of working works here in Borgholm is a good proof that it should be possible to apply everywhere.

Because apart from the eight weeks in the summer when they are very popular to be on northern Öland, it is not so attractive the rest of the year.

Still, 14 doctors have chosen to have their future here, of which ten are under fifty years old.
