The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace strongly condemns the burning of copies of the Holy Quran by extremists in Sweden

The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace strongly condemned the burning of copies of the Noble Qur’an by extremists in Sweden, which is a clear violation of international laws and covenants that stipulate the need to adhere to respecting the sanctities of peoples, their beliefs and their religions.

The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace called on lawmakers around the world to put in place the necessary national legislation to confront these abuses, put an end to them, and limit them to the narrowest scope, in order to block the path of attempts to sedition and destabilize world peace.

Ahmed bin Muhammad al-Jarwan, head of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, stressed that encroaching on religious sanctities is not a matter of freedom of opinion and expression, but rather a barbaric behavior that contradicts all religious values and principles, human rights and basic freedoms and fuels feelings of violence and hatred, and threatens the security and stability of societies and peaceful coexistence.

He called on the international community, represented by the United Nations and its organizations, to confront these heinous acts, and to enact international legislation that prevents abuse of religious sanctities and protects the rights of Muslims to practice their religious rites in the societies in which they live.

He stressed that confronting extremism is a collective responsibility, and that it is working hard through the Council and its organs, the "International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace and the General Assembly for Tolerance and Peace" and its partners to spread the values of dialogue, tolerance and coexistence, promote a culture of peace and acceptance of others, raise awareness of common values, reject hatred, extremism and exclusion, and prevent Abuse of all religions and sanctities, and rejection of all forms of hate speech based on belief, race or religion.
