On April 17, local time, the Governor of KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa, Chikarara, confirmed at a media briefing that the floods in KwaZulu-Natal Province had caused 443 deaths and 63 others were missing, causing economic losses. Up to 5.6 billion rand (about 2.4 billion yuan).

  A search-and-rescue team diver was also killed during the search, as bad weather conditions hampered search and rescue operations, Governor Chikarara said.

The South African government has declared a state of emergency in the province in order to allocate more rescue resources and rebuild infrastructure as soon as possible.
