Ukraine

has flatly rejected the demand for surrender from the military that it still maintains in the besieged city of

Mariupol

, to whom the Russian Army promised to preserve their lives in exchange for laying down their arms.

"The city has not fallen.

Our soldiers are still there and they will fight to the end. For now they are still in Mariupol," Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said.

Likewise, the Ukrainian General Staff has reported that the

advance of Russian troops continues throughout the east of the country,

including the port city of Mariúpol.

"The enemy continues its air strikes on Mariupol, as well as in the rest of the Donetsk region," Ukrainian military sources reported, through the Facebook social network.

Defense sources affirmed, on the other hand, to have managed to repel successive

air attacks on the capital, Kiev.

Ukraine wants to fight "until the end" in besieged Mariupol

Ukraine wants its last defenders in Mariupol to fight "until the end", contrary to the ultimatum issued by Russia on Sunday, which called on Ukrainian forces to lay down their arms in this strategic port city in the south-east of the country.

"The city has not fallen. Our military forces, our soldiers are still there. They will fight to the end," said Denys Shmygal, the Ukrainian prime minister, in an interview with the US network

ABC.

The prime minister's remarks come shortly after Moscow's ultimatum expired, which called on the last Ukrainian soldiers entrenched in a huge Mariupol metallurgical complex to give up the fight and leave before 1:00 p.m.

"All those who have laid down their arms will be guaranteed to save their lives (...) It is their only chance," the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram.
