Since last year, Eskilstuna municipality has had a special group that works to stop grant fraud.

By the beginning of 2022, twelve police reports had been made, but only one of the cases led to prosecution.

Additional cases of suspected grant fraud have now been reported to the police.

In total, there are four people who, according to the municipality, must have provided incorrect information in their application and thus received too much in maintenance support.

In the report, the municipality writes that the persons, among other things, must have withheld deposits in their accounts and in one of the cases, a person is also suspected of having manipulated their bank statements.

It also writes that people know the rules that apply to grants.

Requires damages

The municipality has reported the incidents to the police and demands that the persons pay damages for the incorrectly paid contributions.

The largest sum is just over SEK 44,000 and a total of around SEK 118,000 is required for the four people.
