South Africa: In Durban, Easter prayers are for flood victims

Christians prayed for the victims of the floods that killed nearly 400 people in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, on the country's east coast.

In the press, this Sunday morning, the Archbishop of Durban denounces a lack of preparation for climatic hazards and aging infrastructure.

Faced with the ambient pessimism, Archbishop Siegfried Mandla Jwara calls for singing in unison in the Emmanuel Cathedral in Durban.

He asks his parishioners to take this storm for what it is: an expression of climate change: “

Last night in church I talked a lot about climate change because there are people who don't quite understand.

But now we can see its consequences.

They are our brothers and our sisters, so we must pray for them, especially for the dead.

The coming week will be devoted to helping victims.

Donation campaigns are on the program. 

Landslides and floods

have destroyed thousands of houses, displacing 40,000 people.

At least twenty people are still missing.
