Swedish police reported that 3 people were shot dead during violent clashes today, Sunday, in the capital, Stockholm, between security forces and demonstrators protesting against the burning of the Holy Quran by a right-wing group.

The police said - in a statement - that they fired several warning shots, and "it appears that 3 people were hit by rebounding shrapnel, and they are currently being treated in hospital."

The three wounded, whose condition is unknown, are "under arrest on suspicion of committing a crime."

Yesterday, Saturday, the right-wing movement "Straam Corse" led by the Danish-Swedish, Rasmus Paludan, burned a copy of the Holy Qur'an in the city of Malmö.

A demonstration was organized today, Sunday, to protest against an event that Baludan later announced to cancel.

Four people were arrested in Norrköping, among about 150 participants in the "violent riots", during which stones were thrown at police and cars were set on fire, according to the security forces.

According to the local "TT" news agency, according to the health authorities, 10 people with minor injuries were taken to hospital in the wake of these clashes and similar clashes in the neighboring city of Linkoping, where the "Straamcourse" movement withdrew from organizing another gathering.

Rasmus Paludan intends to run for the Swedish legislative elections next September, but he has not yet succeeded in collecting the necessary signatures, and he is currently on a "tour" in Sweden where he visits the neighborhoods inhabited by a high percentage of Muslims to burn copies of the Qur'an in them.

The lawyer, who was convicted of racist insults, previously ran for legislative elections in his country of birth in Denmark in 2019, but received barely 10,000 votes.

It is reported that Baludan was arrested in France in November 2020 and deported.

Five other activists were arrested in Belgium shortly afterwards, accused of seeking to "spread hatred" by burning a Koran in Brussels.
