Throughout the Easter weekend, violent riots took place in several cities, as a reaction to the Danish right-wing extremist party Tight Course announced that it would arrange meetings in the towns.

On Sunday morning, the party's leader Rasmus Paludan stated that new demonstrations would be held in Linköping and Norrköping.

The party later chose to cancel.

Despite this, riots broke out in the early afternoon with stone-throwing and car fires in both Skäggetorp in Linköping and Navestad in Norrköping.

Due to the riots of recent days, the police had deployed national reinforcements.

- We have seen the need to be able to mobilize in a good way on a day like this and we have done it in a good way, says Mikael Backman, the police's regional commander.

Three gunshot wounds

In Navestad, three people were shot in connection with a police intervention.

All three people were taken to hospital.

According to the police, two people were able to leave the hospital quickly while one needed surgery.

- We know so far that there has been a violent riot and that shots have been fired from police.

We investigate this according to the usual routine, the initial task is that you have been exposed to a serious threat and had to protect yourself either through warning shots or effective fire, the investigation must show which, says Mikael Backman.

There is information that police officers were crowded on a bridge in Norrköping and were attacked from two directions, is that something you comment on?

- There have been many different types of situations during the day where police officers have been exposed to extremely serious stress.

That is an example, I can confirm that.

There are other examples as well.

Is it possible to say which people have been involved in the riots?

- We see that these are mainly locally rooted juveniles.

Then the further investigation will show the extent to which there are organized elements and whether there are visiting activists.
