Around 70 demonstrators were arrested during protests by the environmental protection group Extinction Rebellion in the British capital, London.

According to media reports on Sunday, the activists blocked several bridges and roads, stuck themselves to an oil tank and the roof of a car.

They wanted to reinforce calls for an immediate end to subsidies for coal, oil and gas.

Several scientists from the Scientist Rebellion subgroup were also arrested.

They accused Prime Minister Boris Johnson's conservative government of ignoring scientific evidence.

In a recently presented energy strategy, Johnson announced further oil drilling in addition to further funding for offshore wind farms and new nuclear power plants.
