The White House in the United States has announced that it will hold a summit meeting with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations next month (May) for two days from the 12th.

The White House in the United States issued a statement on the 16th, announcing that the postponed summit meeting with ASEAN will be held in Washington, DC from the 12th of next month.

"It is of paramount importance to the Biden administration that the United States be a strong and credible partner with Southeast Asia," the statement said.

It seems that the United States is aiming to show its stance that there is no change in its policy of deepening its involvement in the Indo-Pacific region, keeping in mind China, which is positioned as the most important diplomatic issue even as the situation in Ukraine increases.

On the other hand, the ASEAN side, where China is accelerating its diplomatic offensive, is afraid that the deepening of the US-China conflict will lead to division between member countries, while the differences in the attitudes of each country are conspicuous over important regional issues such as the South China Sea and the Myanmar issue. It is expected that the United States will be urged to find a way to participate in development in a way that does not impair regional stability.
