North Korean leader witnesses a test of a new tactical weapon

North Korean state media reported today that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un witnessed a test launch of a new type of tactical guided weapon.

The "new type tactical guided weapon" is of "great importance in improving the firepower of long-range artillery units on the front lines and enhancing the operational efficiency of tactical nuclear weapons," the North's official Korean Central News Agency said early Sunday.

The agency confirmed the success of the military experiment, without specifying a date for it.

The KCNA report added that Kim gave the military research team "important instructions on further building defense capabilities and nuclear combat forces."

Kim attended a massive citizen's march on the 110th anniversary of the birth of his grandfather and the country's founding leader Kim Il Sung, in the absence of a military parade usually held on this occasion.
