In the video, you can follow Levin Larsson's garden for a tour of the chickens and chickens.

Levin Larsson, known from this year's season of Farmen on TV4, is one of everyone who has chosen to have poultry in the garden.

He lives in a villa in Örby in Mark municipality and feels that the interest in chickens has increased in recent years.

- If you read in garden magazines and check online, it is more and more popular to have a few chickens in your garden for a little household need.

It certainly has to do with the fact that you want to live a little more environmentally friendly and green.

Association notices increased interest

Knallebygdens fjäderfäförening is a local association in Sjuhärad, but which also has members from all over Sweden.

According to chairman Christer Sandh, the association has not only received more questions about hobby hens in recent years - there is also an increased interest when hens are for sale.

- There are very few who breed to sell.

Many people have it as a hobby and sell the surplus that they might get, says Christer Sandh, who believes that the increased interest may to some extent be due to the pandemic as more people spent more time at home.

Increase during the pandemic

The interest is also noticeable in other parts of Västra Götaland.

In 2020, Miljösamverkan östra Skaraborg noticed a clear increase.

They received 12 applications to have chickens in a detailed planning area, which is twice as many as the year before.

So far this year, four have been received.

The municipality of Uddevalla is also noticing an increased interest and has received both more questions and applications.

For the entire region, there are no statistics showing an increase in hobby chickens.

According to the Swedish Board of Agriculture, there are currently 2,673 registered farms with chickens in the hobby category in Västra Götaland.

The authority did not start registering this type of facility until 2021, so there are no statistics to compare with from previous years.
