- We see an opportunity to avoid building new unnecessarily, says Richard Olsson, property manager at Umeå University.

The scan creates a digital world that is then filled with information from various sensors that are set up in several rooms.

The sensors sense how many people are in the room.

With this information, you can see if the room has been used in connection with it being booked, but also if the room has the right equipment and size.

Should be easier to find on campus

Part of the scan will later also be available to the public.

It will be possible to virtually move around the premises at a distance, similar to Google's Street View but indoors.

- It would be fun to see how we can build a campus that is more attractive to students.

Find easily, find friends or whatever it may be, says Peter Karlsson who is the innovation leader at Akademiska Hus who owns the properties on campus.

In the clip, you get to see what it can look like in Umeå University's digital twin and how the scan works.
