According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, new scaled-up attacks on the Kyiv region are a response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory.

Moscow accuses Ukraine of attacks in the Bryansk border region that are said to have taken place on Thursday.

Ukraine denies reports of air strikes on the region.

During the night towards Good Friday, Kyiv was shaken by the most intense explosions since Russian troops left the city.

The cities of Kherson, Kharkiv and Ivano-Frankivsk were also hit by explosions during the night towards Friday.

SVT's reporter: Constantly prepared for war

SVT's reporter Gilda Hamidi-Nia and photographer Johannes Tolf are in Kyiv.

- Both flight alarms and bangs have become commonplace here.

Last night it happened twice, even though Russian troops have withdrawn here, people are constantly aware of and prepared for the war to return, says Gilda Hamidi-Nia.

The threat of scaled-down attacks from Russia comes just one day after the loss of prestige in the sinking of the Russian flagship Moscow.

Ukraine claims that it was their missiles that hit the ship, Russia that the ammunition caught fire on board and that Moscow sank when it was to be towed ashore.

According to the British Ministry of Defense, Moscow was important from a strategic point of view and served as a node for the air force.
