On April 15, 2019, Notre-Dame cathedral caught fire and the spire of Viollet-le-Duc collapsed on the burning frame.

Three years to the day after the tragedy, what is the progress of the work to rebuild the historic monument, in the heart of the city of Paris?

Europe 1 takes stock.

These are images that moved the whole world.

On April 15, 2019, the flames ravaged Notre-Dame de Paris.

After hours of intervention, the firefighters came to the end of the fire.

However, some damage was already irreparable.

Since then, reconstruction has been underway.

The securing and consolidation of the cathedral was completed last summer.

But where are the works now?

Work is progressing inside the cathedral.

The white tarps still cover the gaping holes left by the fire.

Notre-Dame is now cleaned and refreshed, before its restoration begins in a few weeks.

Stone cutters, master glassmakers, artistic ironworkers must invest the metal forest.

In all, there are 1,200 tons of scaffolding around the pillars.

A blow for traders

The construction site of Notre-Dame is also the reconstruction of the vaults: 15% of them collapsed under the flames.

Second stage: the reconstruction of the framework, then the spire, which should emerge next spring.

The fire was fatal for the tourism sector.

Passers-by are less numerous than in the time of the splendor of Notre-Dame.

Robert deplores these construction huts which have replaced tourists from all over the world.

"It's unfortunate to see that," he confides to Europe 1. "It's a neighborhood that has become quite sad... Even the souvenir shops are closing! It turns everything upside down, we were happy, we were good, We were working, now we have nothing left, we just have to wait!"

Emmanuel Macron is expected this Friday at Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, reveals Europe 1. A trip as president (not a campaign trip) but very symbolically in this between-two rounds, in particular to address the Catholic electorate just before the Easter weekend.
