• A man has been indicted and imprisoned for the murder of his wife in Rennes.

A 48-year-old man was indicted for murder by spouse and imprisoned, we learned from the Rennes prosecutor's office.

The lifeless body of the victim, aged 45 and of Congolese nationality like her husband, was found at her home on Tuesday morning.

The suspect had already served a prison sentence for domestic violence and was prohibited from contacting the victim.

In front of the investigators, the person concerned "acknowledged violence and gestures of strangulation against the victim", explaining "having acted in a context of argument for a futile motive and alcoholism on his part".

He indicated that he was seeing the victim again, with whom he was still married, that he had resumed a life as a couple and slept at her house from time to time, by mutual agreement.

, the victim had however initiated a divorce procedure which was "very advanced", according to his lawyer.

Sentenced to a year and a half in prison in 2019

The couple's two little girls, aged eight and nine, were present at the time of the tragedy.

They were the subject of a provisional placement order.

The couple married in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2012 before moving to France.

In 2019, the husband was sentenced to a year and a half in prison, including eight months suspended, for violence with a weapon on his partner.

The man had served his sentence in the Rennes penitentiary center from December 2019 to July 2020 and he had since been followed “as part of the probationary stay which was to end on July 8, 2022”, the prosecution said on Tuesday.

No complaint from the victim had been registered since his conviction.
