The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, made two phone calls, Thursday evening, to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh.

The Qatar News Agency reported that Sheikh Tamim discussed with the Palestinian President and Head of the Hamas Political Bureau the latest developments in the Palestinian arena.

She added that the Emir of Qatar affirmed, during the two contacts, the State of Qatar's firm and supportive position for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the establishment of their independent state on their land, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also stressed Qatar's rejection of all escalatory measures practiced by the Israeli occupation forces, calling for the need to work on calm and reduce escalation and tension.

The agency quoted that the Palestinian president and the head of the political bureau of Hamas expressed their deep appreciation for the Qatari position.
