The premises belong to the Malmö Deaf Association, which helps with information about Swedish society.

- We have helped about 70 deaf refugees in recent weeks, says Chanelle Ferm, representative of Deaf Refugees Welcome and vice president of Malmö Deaf Association.

The dog was allowed to help in the war

She tells how some survived an attack thanks to a dog.

- They went down to the shelter, but did not know when it was calm to get up again.

By letting the dog out and seeing how it reacted, they understood when the bombing had stopped.

Deaf volunteers in Malmö have opened their homes to Ukrainian deaf refugees.

Deaf Refugees Welcome and Malmö Dövas Förening offer a Ukrainian sign language interpreter to those who need to be able to communicate with the Swedish Migration Board.

Can not survive in small village

Chanelle Ferm says that Ukrainian deaf refugees are particularly vulnerable and need a supportive network around them.

It can be about deaf associations, deaf schools and that you get to learn Swedish sign language.

She emphasizes that the Swedish Migration Agency must be extra careful when placing deaf refugees in Sweden.

- When you are deaf, you can not end up in a small village in the country.

There is not the same deaf sign language network that can support.

That is why it is important for the deaf to be placed in the right place, says Chanelle Ferm.
