The deputies adopted this Thursday, April 14 the work schedule for the 2022 session. And the bill tabled on April 4 in the Assembly by the independent deputy Antoine Assalé Tiémoko on the age limit of 75 years for candidates for the presidential election will be well debated.

But, given the nature of the texts which affect the Constitution and which remain politically sensitive, it will probably be necessary to wait until the end of the year.

Deputy Antoine Assalé Tiémoko had tabled two bills.

The first calls in particular for the abolition of the vice-presidency, and above all for a ceiling age of 75 for presidential candidates.

The second, a reduction in the presidential deposit from 50 to 20 million francs, or the prohibition of political transhumance.

These two proposals will therefore be part of the 27 texts that will be examined this year.

But in several months.

This Thursday, in fact, the deputies adopted the timetable for the first 15 texts that they must examine.

A second calendar will be adopted at the end of July for the rest of the year.

And the two proposals that affect the Constitution will experience a longer and more complicated course than ordinary laws.

The flagship provision of these two proposals is therefore the age limit of 75, which was debated for many months last year.

If adopted, it would remove from the presidential game the three heavyweights who have occupied the front of the Ivorian political scene for 30 years: Alassane Ouattara, 80 years old today, Henri Konan Bédié, 88 years old next month and Laurent Gbagbo soon 77. .

Politically, this would immediately lead within their parties to open battles for their successions, making it much more difficult for them to take control of their respective formations.

"

The closer the date of the discussions on this text will be to 2025, the more it will suit everyone

", comments a wise observer.
