Vladimir Putin assured Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer of the stability of Russian gas supplies.

This was announced by the head of the Austrian government to journalists of the APA agency.

According to Nehammer, Putin brought up the topic of gas during the meeting and stated that "the gas supply is guaranteed, that Russia delivers the volumes promised under the agreement."

It should be noted that the refusal of the EU countries from Russian gas is being discussed as part of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, which is being worked on in Europe.

On April 7, the European Parliament issued a corresponding resolution.

The authors of the APA interview with Nehammer note that the chancellor is still opposed to the gas embargo on Russia.

The head of the Austrian government noted that Austria itself, as well as Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania are highly dependent on Russian gas.

According to him, supporting the embargo on gas supplies from the Russian Federation will mean that both industry and households will suffer damage.

In addition, he suggested that the rejection of Russian gas could lead to an increase in unemployment and social inequality.

Note that the day before, Nehammer expressed a similar point of view in an interview with CNN.

Commenting on the prospect of stopping Russian gas supplies, the chancellor noted that "sanctions should hit Russia harder than the European Union."

Recall that Nehammer visited Moscow for talks with Vladimir Putin on April 11.

The Chancellor became the first European leader to come to Russia since February 24, when he launched a special operation in Ukraine.

The meeting was held at the residence of the Russian leader near Moscow in Novo-Ogaryovo.

According to Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer in Novo-Ogaryovo was "short by recent standards."

In turn, the Austrian publication Kronen Zeitung reported that the meeting between Putin and Nehammer lasted 75 minutes.

In addition, in an interview with Kurier, Nehammer called his conversation with the Russian president "direct, open and tough."

Gazprom and Russia made considerable efforts for the energy security of Europe"

Deputy Director General of the National Energy Institute Alexander Frolov, in an interview with RT, noted that calls are increasingly being made to abandon gas from Russia, but Moscow continues to deliver, no matter what.

“We have the technical ability to stop production and interrupt supplies, but at the same time we demonstrate that we are not at war with Europe.

We adhere to signed agreements.

And if you look at the history of our relationship, we will see that Gazprom in particular and Russia as a whole have made considerable efforts to ensure the energy security of Europe, ”Frolov said in an interview with RT.

According to him, the issue of reliability of gas supplies should be excluded.

The corresponding conditions were agreed earlier, if they are met, supplies continue, the analyst said.

He also spoke about the continuation of this work against the backdrop of sanctions pressure on Russia.

“By the way, in the conditions of supplies, in the contracts there was not a word that, if sanctions are imposed, we will stop gas supplies.

There is no such.

We supply gas based on the standards that are in our contracts,” Frolov said.

Director of the Energy Development Fund Sergei Pikin, in turn, noted that the topic of stability was discussed by the parties in the context of a new payment scheme.

“And each side confirmed that the scheme is new – this is our position.

And the Austrians realized for themselves that there are no problems in terms of transactions in the new scheme.

Before that, for some reason, they thought differently, ”Pikin said in an interview with RT.

According to him, "the parties understood what each of them was talking about, and realized that their positions are similar."

“If the positions are similar, then there will be payment.

This means that stability will also be, ”concluded the expert.
