The World Health Organization (WHO) has decided to continue maintaining an international public health emergency over COVID-19.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a video press briefing, "The COVID-19 Emergency Committee recently held a meeting and has unanimously decided to maintain a state of emergency regarding this pandemic."

Secretary-General Tedros said last week that the number of new deaths worldwide from COVID-19 was the lowest since the beginning of the pandemic, but stressed that now is not the time to be vigilant.

Michael Ryan, head of the WHO's emergency program, also spoke of the need for vigilance, calling the coronavirus "previously outrageous".
