In France, “Moka” refers to coffees that passed through the Yemeni port of Moccha, from where the first coffee beans left in the 17th century.

But for coffee specialists, mocha refers to an endemic coffee from Ethiopia, of the arabica variety.

There are two main families of coffees: arabica and robusta.

Arabica is the first coffee discovered in Africa, which is found at altitude (1500-2200 meters).

The best known Arabica is the typica found in Ethiopia.

It is considered as the original coffee, the one which allowed by hybridization or mutation to create the others.

It was the Dutch who started the trade from the port of Al Moccha, in Yemen.

Mocha is an elegant and rather light coffee, with floral and citrus notes…

Robusta was only discovered in the 19th century in the Congo.

It is more hardy and easy to grow.

It is more powerful in the mouth, but much less refined.

It is the coffee that is mainly used to make soluble coffee.

Coffee is a bit like wine, its taste is influenced by its terroir, itself defined by the nature of the soil, the altitude, the orientation or the weather.
