The legal advisor, Dr. Youssef Al-Sharif, warned against some people re-publishing what they reach through social media applications (Social Media), without realizing that it contributes to spreading rumors and false news, without knowing the legal consequences of their actions.

Al-Sharif explained that the legislator in the rumor law did not exempt those who republish, which is known as “forward”, as whoever does this thinks that he has no responsibility, noting that the legislator decided to be punished by imprisonment, for a period of no less than one year, and a fine of no less For 100,000 dirhams, whoever uses the information network, or any means of information technology, to broadcast, publish, republish, circulate or re-circulate false news, data, false, tendentious, misleading or misleading rumors or reports, or violates what has been done. Announcing it officially, or broadcasting any exciting propaganda, that would incite or provoke public opinion, disturb public security, spread terror among people, or cause harm to the public interest, the national economy, public order, or public health.

Al-Sharif reviewed some examples of false news, including some spreading false rumors about the “Corona” vaccination, or lying about the issue of infection from “Corona”, and that the injured has no fear, and he must live his life normally, proposing to tighten the punishment on the promoters of such Lies, especially if they result from infected people.

He said that some social media users, from time to time, deliberately publish news that begins with the word “they say,” or the phrase “I heard from a responsible source,” or “I have confirmed news” or “almost certain,” adding that the use of words or sentences is the beginning of a topic. Usually important, but the extent of the credibility of this news depends on several factors, including the circumstances surrounding the news, the clarity and ambiguity of the evidence, the extent of the fictional image contained in the subject, and the extent of its rationality.

Al-Sharif cautioned that rumors and false news have a psychological impact on society, and may cause confusion in the environment in which the news is spread, explaining that the rumor differs from the false news, because the rumor is in different topics of importance to its future, but it lacks evidence to prove it, as for the news The liar, he published part of the image, which means fragmentary news, the intent of which is to falsify the truth.

He mentioned that there are several examples about the rumor, including the common occurrence of unreal dangers facing members of society. As for the false news, it is distorted, such as saying “the government distributes lands with an area larger than the areas established according to its regulations and directives,” or “smaller pieces.” for the purpose of incitement, counterfeiting and abuse.

He referred to the second paragraph of the article, as it stipulated that “the penalty shall be for a period of no less than two years, and a fine of no less than 200,000 dirhams, if any of the acts mentioned in Clause 1 of this Article result in inciting or agitating public opinion, against one of the state authorities, or its institutions, or if it was committed in a time of epidemics, emergencies and disasters,” explaining that this crime is considered a crime against state security in accordance with Article (71) of this same law.
