Heavy rain kills 59 people in South Africa

The death toll due to unusually heavy rains has risen to at least 59 in the coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal in eastern South Africa, according to regional chief minister Sehli Zikalala.

However, those numbers are not confirmed as many people are still missing.

The army has been mobilized for disaster relief, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa plans to visit the flooded areas on Wednesday.

Rescue operations are still difficult, as many roads have been washed away.

It is also difficult to assess the situation since many of the mobile booster towers are not disconnected from the line.
