• In the first round of the presidential election, Anne Hidalgo obtained 1.75% of the votes cast while the regional president capped at 4.78%.

  • Poor results which should not have a determining impact on the continuation of their action at the local level, estimates Stéphane Troussel, president of the department of Seine-Saint-Denis.

  • On the other hand, for the elected LR of the Council of Paris, Anne Hidalgo comes out weakened from the presidential campaign and they intend to take advantage of it.

An election evening to forget for the two bosses of the Paris region.

Neither Anne Hidalgo nor Valérie Pécresse managed to cross the bar of 5% of votes cast in the first round of the presidential election.

The mayor of Paris is struggling at 1.75% while the regional president is capped at 4.78%.

If at the Ile-de-France level, Valérie Pécresse does a little better with 6.19%, it is the catamaran for Anne Hidalgo who falls 1.43%, below Jean Lassalle (1.59%)!

But the two women will quickly have to digest their failure to focus on their local issues.

Can this common misadventure weigh on the rest of their mandates?

“It does not call into question their ability to govern, judge Stéphane Troussel, PS president of Seine-Saint-Denis.

They were elected, they have their legitimacy and electoral defeats happen to others, Chirac lost in 1981 when he was mayor of Paris.

For him, the rout on Sunday evening would only be an incident, unlikely to hinder them in their pursuit of their local mandate.

What to do with his balance sheet?

Nelly Garnier, elected LR to the Council of Paris and to the region, sees things differently, especially concerning the mayor of the capital.

“Anne Hidalgo is very weak, she only has 23,000 votes in Paris.

There is no territory where she is present, even in the 11th arrondissement where she is elected, she is only 2.9%, she targets.

In Paris, Valérie Pécresse makes a little more than 69,000 votes, it is not at all the same level of fall.

“And for Nelly Garnier, this Hidalgo tumble is explained by his record at the Paris City Hall: “These results reflect the highlighting of Hidalgo's policy in Paris, in particular with the #SaccageParis movement.

There is a deep questioning of his management in Paris.

"Hidalgo's record is the burden of his campaign and it was seen in broad daylight, supports Valérie Montandon,

also elected LR in Paris and the Region.

She pays for her calamitous action in Paris.

"It has nothing to do with it," retorts Olivia Polski, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of trade.

For Parisians, this presidential election is very disconnected from local issues.

The proof for her of this disconnection is that the LR opposition, which continues to attack the majority, has not taken advantage of the situation at all.

"The outrageous position of LR has not been translated into voice", abounds David Belliard, ecologist assistant in charge of transport.

“Many left-wing voters voted useful in the face of the danger from the far right,” adds Olivia Polski.

The argument of the useful vote is also invoked by Nelly Garnier but this time to the detriment of Valérie Pécresse, who was penalized more by a transfer in favor of Emmanuel Macron than the way she managed Ile-de-France.

"She has not been criticized on her regional record," she says.

It is moreover on this point that a member of his campaign formulates some criticisms.

“She should have relied more on what she did in Ile-de-France and insisted that it was the laboratory of her ideas.

She did it before the campaign, but not during, regrets this source.

During the health crisis, she managed to obtain masks before the government, and it should have been said.

If she had relied on her track record, she would probably have been more comfortable and more authentic.

Anne Hidalgo targeted

And for the rest, Nelly Garnier is not too worried about Valérie Pécresse who has a "very solid majority in Ile-de-France", able to withstand a possible new offensive from Macron on LR.

On the other hand, the two elected right-wingers do not intend to spare Anne Hidalgo.

“We always thought it would be difficult to come back, says Valérie Montandon.

Its result will weaken its majority even more, especially since the angry subjects have been set aside but will have to be treated like the Local Urban Plan which risks opposing it to the Greens.

“And the LR opposition intends to press where it hurts.

"There is a way to block it by mobilizing other political groups", predicts Nelly Garnier.

“Of course there will be sarcasm and criticism,” explains Stéphane Troussel.

But Anne Hidalgo knows very well that politics is not a long calm river.

And then she is fully invested in the Olympics where she assumes her responsibilities.

She is always there in the important decision-making moments.

"The majority is solid on its basic contract and every time we said it was rocking, it held," supports Olivia Polski.

On the other hand, the position of David Belliard is more nuanced.

Taking note of Jean-Luc Mélenchon's big score (30% of the vote in Paris, just behind Macron), he wonders about the need "for more assertive policies, which better take into account social inequalities, which are strong in the capital". .

Also aware of a "fundamental movement critical of the policy we are pursuing,

he recommends giving it more meaning, explaining it better and responding better to everyday expectations”.

It looks strangely like a roadmap for the second half of Anne Hidalgo's term.
